Resting Boat Crew

IMAGE CAPTION: This was taken with my 40D at 1/125 f5.6 using ISO320 and available light. The crew was resting after serving the passengers a meal. I tried to burn in the outside light as much as I could, but think it was not enough. What is your call?.

John Larson There is a good story here with strong human interest. The light on the table and the outside light will keep this going real far in competition.
Nancy Sams The composition and color do rate high with me and I don’t find the light through the window to be a problem. If I were judging, I want to see something more lively. This one is too restful.
Carol Rogus Your exposure is darned good--yes, the bald sky in the distance is unfortunate, but it is what it is and does not detract from the appeal of this shot. Did not realize at first that these were crew members, though their clothing would have told that story were I astute enough. But it is interesting with one individual sleeping, another working on a game or some such, another simply looking a bit bored. But it is obvious that you are on a boat somewhere in Asia and these three are definitely not interested in the world outside the window. Hence, yes, crew!
Ed Butler Nice photo. Eye is pulled to top right highlights. I put the photo into camera raw and using the recovery and exposure sliders recovered the top right section. I also cropped the highlight out by cropping horizontally across the tops of subjects heads. This worked as far as highlights but made it a "different" image.
Alex Lane I like the overall image. Warm colors and good exposure. The title says it all. (8)

It is hard to remember when I did NOT shoot images, but really began seriously shooting in the mid 80's for my local camera club's competitions. Unsuccessfully tried my hand in the darkroom for a while, emerging with huge piles of trash, and one, gray, uninteresting loser in my hand. Shot for stock for a dozen yrs, before digital came along. Love to shoot nature, travel, set ups, actually just about everything but people. That is why I think this study group will be helpful by forcing me to expand my horizons. Look forward to being in this, my first study group.
